The Enlightenment was a sprawling intellectual, philosophical, cultural, and social movement to reform society using reason rather than religion.
Thomas Paine is the author of Common Sense, The American Crisis, Rights of Man, and The Age of Reason. He was born in Thetford, Norwalk, England. He moved to Philadelphia in 1774 and became an editor for Pennsylvania Magazine in 1775. He registered for the Continental Army in 1776.
